Can you be anyone else but yourself? Obviously not! Yet while knowing this simple truth explicitly, many of us try, in manifold ways, to be people other than ourselves. We act in certain ways just so we can fit in, purchase things we do not really need just so we can "match up" and, worst of all, we even sometimes go as far as suppressing our true selves just so we can appear more like others. But all to what end, really?
Notes William Shakespeare, "God has given you one face, and you make yourself another." Many of us cannot even bear to see what we have become - yet we plod on stubbornly! Many of those who may have known us growing up, if they were to meet us today, just might pass us by because even the physical appearance may be so starkly different. Change is not a bad thing, but if you abuse your body in the many ways we see people do today or do certain things that mar your true beauty and make of yourself something you were never meant to be, what do you think that makes you?
We are all unique. We are all special. We are all set apart for great things - just as we are. You do not need to be like someone else before you can be the best of yourself. If it were not the case, God would have made you exactly like the other person - but He didn't, because you are meant for exploits just as you are. Do not make a mockery of God. And do not try too hard to fit in with others; oftentimes it is precisely this - trying to fit in - that makes us fall out of God's plans for our lives. Be yourself and love yourself. You are an excellent creation of God's Hands just as you are.
