Those greener pastures can be yours, too, if you are willing to do the extra watering. That future enjoyment can be attained if you are willing, now, to invest the needed suffering. Everything in life has its price, but the cost involved for the best things often isn't money.

Each one of us was placed here on earth for a specific reason. We are not just here to add up to the numbers. This is a chilling reality of life: when we refuse to go by God's plans for our lives, it is like snuffing out His goals for us and aborting our destinies all at the same time. The Master can find another hand to do His bidding, but the question is, will you get another life to right your wrongs in this one? Be wise! Live always for God!

Prosperity will bring you friends aplenty. Poverty will leave you with a paucity of them. When you draw your social Venn diagram, combining these two groups, you then realise that your true pals are those who stick with you through all the changing scenes of life, celebrating you when things are picture-perfect and sharing in your sorrows when life knocks you down. I wish you such friends!

We may not all be salespeople, but we're all definitely selling ourselves: our talents, our skills - in essence, our worth, to others. And the better we are at selling ourselves, the greater our chances at making inroads in our fields of endeavour. How well are you selling the product that is "You"?

We shall not always be successful at handling the tests life presents us with. In fact, there will be many occasions when we shall fail; but we must commit to fighting to ensure that our defeats are never final. While many battles may be lost in life, we cannot afford to lose the war, the ultimate. Take the downs of life together with the ups; never give up!

Our country is getting hotter by the year; you feel it, and so do I. Unless I have something really pressing to attend to nowadays, I do not go out in the afternoons. Why? The heat! And I'm not so good with heat. In fact, it gives me a torrid time. Our world is changing for the worse. Mother Earth is crying out! Will we not listen to her plea? Let us remember that while we can have a "Plan A, B, C" and so on, we have only one planet - earth. There is no "Planet B or C."

Don't be too afraid to get onto the road less travelled, for very often it is exactly where only few dare to tread that you find the stiffest of challenges as well as the greatest of rewards. Do not blindly follow the crowd. Beat your own path. Make your own way. Dare to be positively different.

You're in grave danger of courting failure and hurting yourself, maybe badly, once you start thinking you know. Just how much do you know anyway? You see, we all know a little something; and with that something, little though it may be, if we are humble enough and if we open ourselves to learning a little more from others and never grow too proud to continue doing so, then we shall acquire much more knowledge and do those amazing things that often lead to real fulfillment.

So you were awarded a first-class degree. Congratulations! But pardon my asking: are you also a first-class problem-solver or deliverer in what you call your work? So you passed with distinction in school. Super! Now tell me: how have you distinguished yourself in terms of applying, in real life, what you distinguished yourself in at school? There are too many people who were raving successes in the classroom who are utter failures in the school of life. Now, why is that?

Africa has produced a cornucopia of first-class students. My question, then, is: do these first-class students translate into first-class teachers, police officers, fashion designers, computer programmers, social workers, engineers, doctors, nurses, lawyers, translators and so on? Oftentimes the answer is no. Why? Because we focus on the book and pay little attention to what ought to be its product, the work.
